Find Sibley County Released Inmates

Sibley County released inmates may leave the live jail roster as soon as a custody event changes. That absence can mean release to the community, transfer to another jail, or entry into state custody. A search for Sibley County released inmates must therefore match the person to the agency that held them and the record that states what happened. Sibley County released inmates can be traced through county release data, state corrections records, court dispositions, custody alerts, and federal systems when those channels apply. Each source answers a different part of the release question.

Sibley County Release Outcomes

A person is released from Sibley County Jail when the jail's physical custody ends. The next step matters. Some people return to the community after posting bond, completing a jail term, receiving a court order, or resolving the case. Others leave the Sibley County roster because staff transferred them to another county, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, or a federal custodian. Those transfers are not community releases.

Minnesota also separates release from discharge. Supervised release means the prison portion of a state sentence has ended while the sentence continues in the community. Discharge or sentence expiration marks the end of correctional jurisdiction. Probation is a court-ordered form of community supervision and may follow a stayed sentence rather than a state-prison term. Time served means the court credits custody already completed toward the sentence.

Note: A bond figure, anticipated date, or missing roster name does not by itself prove that physical release was completed.

Sibley County Release Record Fields

A strong Sibley County release record identifies the person, the booking, the end of custody, and the reason for that change. Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subdivision 2, makes the date, time, and legal basis for an adult's release public at the originating law-enforcement agency. The same subdivision separately covers a custody transfer, including its date, time, basis, and recipient. Asking for both sets of facts prevents a transfer from being mistaken for freedom from custody.

FieldWhat it establishes
Full name and MNIThe person tied to the local custody record
Booking numberThe specific jail event being checked
Intake date and timeWhen that custody event began
Release date and timeWhen Sibley County physical custody ended
Legal basisBond, time served, court order, dismissal, or other authority
Transfer recipientThe agency or person receiving custody, if applicable
Booking photographThe image tied to the arrest and booking event

The court file adds the disposition, sentence, probation events, warrants, and public orders. It may explain why the jail acted, but it does not always state the minute that a person walked out or was transported. The sheriff's release or transfer record remains the direct source for that physical event.

Request Sibley County Release Data

Send a focused public-data request to the Sibley County Sheriff's Office at 419 Harrison Street, Gaylord, MN 55334, or P.O. Box 102, Gaylord, MN 55334. The general Sheriff and Jail number is 507-237-4330. Jail and dispatch operations run around the clock, while administration is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Record processing may follow those office hours.

  1. Identify the person with a full name and, when known, the MNI, booking number, and approximate intake date.
  2. Cite Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subdivision 2(h) and (i). Ask for both release and transfer facts.
  3. Request the date, time, legal basis, receiving agency, booking identifiers, and booking photo. Ask for partial release if another field is protected.
  4. Choose free inspection when copies are not needed. For electronic or paper copies, ask for a current cost estimate first.
  5. If a field is withheld, ask the county to name the statute that supports the denial.

Inspection of public data is free. Under § 13.03, up to 100 black-and-white letter or legal paper copies may cost no more than 25 cents per page. Other requests may include actual search, retrieval, reproduction, and transmission costs. Sibley County's current schedule lists research records at $25 per hour, but the extracted schedule does not set one fixed price for every release record or booking photo. A current estimate is more reliable than an old rate.

A person who finds a factual error in their own Sibley County data may use the county policy's written challenge process. The responsible authority has 30 days to correct the data and seek notice to past recipients, or to state that the county believes the data are accurate. This route fits a wrong release date or identity mismatch. It is separate from requesting ordinary public access.

Important: Ordinary public requests must receive a reasonably prompt response. The county's ten-working-day rule concerns data-subject access, not every public request.

Sibley Release Law and Retention

Minnesota's Government Data Practices Act starts from a presumption that government data are public unless another law classifies them otherwise. Section 13.82 expressly identifies public adult arrest, transfer, and release facts. Section 13.03 governs inspection, copies, response, and fees. It does not force an office to create a report or rearrange data into a format the office does not maintain.

Retention is separate from public status. Section 13.82 does not itself require a sheriff to keep a released entry online. Sections 15.17 and 138.17 tie record preservation and lawful disposal to applicable schedules. Sibley County publishes no fixed online release window, so the sheriff should identify the schedule for a requested booking and release event. Protected medical information, victim data, juvenile material, and active investigative details do not become public merely because the basic release facts are public.

Chapter 609A usually seals records rather than destroying the historical event. A granted expungement may remove a public online case while leaving data outside the order's scope. The waiting period often runs from sentence discharge, which can occur well after the day the person left jail or prison. Court forms and the current order control what becomes sealed.

Note: Ask for all segregable public fields and a statutory reason for each withheld item instead of requesting an entire investigative file.

Sibley Release Cases Missing Online

Minnesota Court Records Online, or MCRO, can preserve the case trail after a Sibley County released inmate disappears from the jail list. Search by a known case number when possible. A party-name search can then be limited to Sibley County and criminal cases. Read the disposition, sentencing order, warrants, probation entries, and discharge events rather than relying on the complaint.

MCRO party-name results omit criminal cases that have not resulted in conviction. A dismissal or other nonconviction event may therefore explain a Sibley County release without appearing in that name search. Courthouse terminals and counter files can be more complete. Sibley County District Court is at 400 Court Avenue in Gaylord and can be reached at 507-237-4051 during weekday business hours. The county's Criminal Complaint Viewer is only a selected complaint source, not a disposition archive.

A court order and sheriff record work best together. The order states the legal result. The county release record states when the physical jail event ended.

Sibley Jail Release History

The present Sibley County Jail was completed in 1995 after the county's 1915 jail closed on December 23, 1992. County material says the current facility can house up to 20 people, including six Huber or work-release places. A 2025 Minnesota DOC inspection uses a different operational frame: 19 approved secure coed beds and an operational figure of 15.2 for the authorization period through September 2027. Both figures are attributed to their source and need not be forced into one count.

The county's last published historical activity snapshot reports 522 bookings and an average daily population of 14.32 in 2017. Those numbers describe a past year. They are not a present release total. The official jail page links the current roster, while the county release and transfer record remains the source for how a specific custody event ended.

Find Sibley County Released Inmates

No single search covers every Sibley County release. Start with the last known custodian and the most recent event. The county roster can show an identifier before release. Minnesota VINE can send county-jail change notices. The sheriff holds the public release or transfer facts. MCRO supplies the legal case result. State and federal systems become relevant only when the person entered those systems.

  1. Check the timestamp on the Sibley County In Custody roster. If the person appears, it supports custody only as of that snapshot.
  2. Save the MNI, booking number, intake date, charge notes, outside holds, and any anticipated date before the entry disappears.
  3. Search Minnesota VINE for the same county-jail event, then call the jail to ask whether it ended by release or transfer.
  4. Request § 13.82 release and transfer data when the exact time, legal basis, or recipient matters.
  5. Use MCRO for the disposition. If the order commits the person to MN DOC, switch to the DOC Locator.
  6. Follow a named outside or federal hold to the receiving county, BOP, ICE, or U.S. Marshals channel.
Roster limit: A person who leaves the current list may have been released, transferred, or removed after an administrative change. Absence proves none of those outcomes by itself.

The official In Custody screen shows why its role is limited.

Its timestamp, photos, identifiers, intake details, charges, and bond fields help establish the current booking. It has no released tab, past-booking search, release-time field, or 24-hour and 72-hour archive.

Sibley Release Status by Custodian

The source must match both the custody level and the point in time. A live roster answers who is displayed now. A release record answers how a past county custody event ended. A DOC status can show movement from prison to supervision, while a federal locator addresses only its own agency.

When two sources appear to conflict, compare their timestamps and labels. A county snapshot, a later court event, and an under-supervision DOC record can each be accurate for a different stage of one case.

Sibley County Recent Release Limits

Sibley County does not publish an official recent-releases view. The county page is labeled In Custody and contains no 24-hour switch, 72-hour switch, archive control, name search, date filter, or release-time column. It also makes no promise about refresh intervals or how long a departed entry remains visible. A missed release window cannot be rebuilt from that screen.

For a recent event, use Minnesota VINE and call 507-237-4330 with the person's name and booking details. For a named date range, request the sheriff's release and transfer fields. The official sheriff and jail access paths did not identify a branded mobile app, so an app should not be presented as a Sibley County source. The roster's booking photos also have no documented released-person archive.

Why did the name vanish? The roster is a present-custody report. Only the legal basis and recipient fields distinguish community release from a handoff to another custodian.

Sibley Release Alerts and Supervision

Minnesota VINE covers county-jail custody changes. A person can be searched by name, and a user may register for the phone, text, email, or in-app methods offered for that record. Phone registration uses a user-created PIN to confirm receipt and stop repeat calls. An alert is useful notice, but a sheriff record is stronger for the exact release time, basis, and transfer recipient.

Minnesota Haven is the separate DOC custody and release notification channel. VINE does not disprove state custody when it returns no county-jail result. A released state prisoner who still falls under DOC jurisdiction may show Under Supervision and a district in the Locator. Sibley residents released from DOC facilities are supervised by DOC agents through the Gaylord office in the Chaska District. The local routes and status terms are covered on Post-Release Supervision.

Minnesota's public offender registries have a narrower purpose and scope. The BCA does not publish a name search for every compliant registrant. Public results concern specified noncompliant records and people subject to public community-notification rules. A registry result does not supply the precise Sibley County release date, and no public hit does not show that a person was never registered, confined, or released.

Supervised release
The community portion of an executed state sentence.
Probation
Court-ordered supervision that may follow a stayed or local sentence.
Discharge
The end of correctional or court supervision.
Detainer
A request or legal basis for another agency to take or keep custody.

Federal Release Checks for Sibley

The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners. Search by BOP Register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number, or by name with optional public descriptors. A past Release Date plus RELEASED and no facility means the person is no longer in BOP custody as of that date. IN TRANSIT is not release. A future date remains projected, and UNKNOWN means the term has not been determined.

The official BOP locator image shows the federal fields used for this distinct search.

Sibley County released inmate federal BOP locator search

BOP status does not prove that the person is free from all other custody or that federal supervision has ended. BOP FOIA and the federal docket are the fallbacks for more detail.

ICE's Online Detainee Locator has a narrow feature: it may include people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. Search with an A-number and country of birth, or a biographical name and country of birth. The result concerns ICE only. No official source found Sibley County Jail to be an ICE detention or contract facility. For U.S. Marshals custody, there is no comparable public released-person locator. Use the federal docket, actual holding jail, BOP after designation, or a focused USMS records request.

Note: County, state, BOP, ICE, and U.S. Marshals records are custodian-specific, so no one result settles every possible custody status.

Sibley County Release Facility

Sibley County Jail is the only county detention facility identified in the official local sweep. It operates at 419 Harrison Street in Gaylord. A person may leave for the community, another Minnesota jail, MN DOC custody, or a federal handoff. The sheriff's public release and transfer facts identify which path occurred. No separate municipal lockup or regional jail was found in Sibley County.
